Kayla is not that great.
In the Kids Corner episode, Kayla sings on stage in church while Liz looks on. Liz, in all his "Lizziness," gets super excited and even wants her to have a show on the Christian Cable Network. Just one problem: she’s trash.
Kayla's singing is literally in one key. Her piano song is simple and genuinely not even as good as the God Is In Control song Liz recorded for his radio station, WLZR. Which begs the question: why is Liz so obsessed with becoming her manager? She’s not that good as a Christian singer, and from the few samples we heard, she’s a much better rock singer (the music is better and has more than one beat—at least we don’t actually hear her sing). And Kayla is right; she shouldn’t have to sing gospel songs if she doesn’t want to, especially ones that have no beat and wouldn’t even make it on K-Love or KSBJ!
While Kayla can be criticized for idolizing pop star Kaylala, Liz also shares the blame. When Kayla performs a much better, non-Christian song and gets picked up by talent scouts, Liz acts like she betrayed him. Liz can’t help her—he’s in 6th grade, for crying out loud. Putting her music on a web radio station is hardly a solid career move, and it would be ridiculous for her to stick with him. Secondly, her Christian song would have gotten her booed off the stage because it was trash. It was just a step above the CPAC 2021 national anthem singer, for crying out loud.
In any case, Kayla was right, and Liz was wrong.
